Front-of-House Job Descriptions for Friends of the Barn
Front
of House Manager: This role carries the responsibility for the
smooth running of the entire Front of House function which includes
overseeing the FOH volunteers, ensuring the audience are seated on time
and liaising with the Stage Manager.
You would need to be at the theatre two hours before curtain up and
until all the audience have left and all tasks have been completed.
Bar
Steward: This role involves serving patrons with drinks (beer,
wine, spirits, soft drinks and coffee and tea), taking and later preparing
interval drinks orders and taking payment via the Square payment system.
You would need to be at the theatre one hour before curtain up and
stay until the bar closes and is restocked. The bar reopens after some
shows. [Bar stewards must be authorised before they can serve alcohol].
Bar
Support: This role involves opening wine, replenishing stock
in the chillers and collecting and washing dirty glasses in the dish
washer.

Box Office:
This role involves selling and answering queries regarding tickets and
using the TicketSource booking and Square payment systems.
You would need to be at the theatre one hour before curtain up and
stay until the show starts.
Car Park Steward:
Parking is limited so this role carries the responsibility for offering
help to patrons so that they park safely, swiftly and conveniently,
whilst allowing the Theatre to comply with the necessary safety requirements.
You would need to be at the theatre one hour before curtain up and
stay until the show starts.
Ice
Cream Seller: This role involves selling ice creams from the
front foyer during the interval.
You would need to be at the theatre from 15 minutes before the first
interval until about 5 minutes after the last interval. For this reason
it is often doubled up with programme selling prior to the performance.
Programme
Seller: This role involves selling programmes and answering
queries about the location of seats etc.
You would need to be at the theatre one hour before curtain up and
stay until the show starts. For this reason it is often doubled up with
ice-cream selling during the interval.
Raffle Ticket
Seller: This role involves selling raffle tickets while greeting
patrons, answering queries about the location of seats and folding raffle
tickets ready for the draw.
You would need to be at the theatre one hour before curtain up until
the end of sales and the handover of the takings and unsold tickets
to the Front of House Manager.
Sweet
Shop Assistant: This role involves serving patrons before the
performances and during the intervals.
You would need to be at the theatre one hour before curtain up until
after the last interval.
Usher:
This role involves checking tickets and showing patrons to their seats.
You sit in the auditorium throughout the performance and act as a fire
marshall if necessary so please only volunteer for performances you
are happy to watch.
You would need to be at the theatre one hour before curtain up and
stay until the public have left the theatre.
Dress Code:
The dress code is usually black and white for the ladies and D.J.s for
the gentlemen. The car park attendants should dress appropriately for
the weather with a safety vest (supplied by the theatre) and the person
in bar support will need to be comfortable - it can get quite warm in
the bar stock room!
