A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE

Prose, prejudice and passengers collide in this warmly humorous musical set in 1960's Dublin. Alfie Byrne, a middle-aged Irish bus conductor with a passion for the writings of Oscar Wilde, causes controversy when he attempts to stage a production of Wilde's 'Salome' using his passengers as the cast. But people have secrets that are destined to rock the group's theatrical endeavours to the core.

With music by Stephen Flaherty and words by Lynn Ahrens (the team behind 'Seussical', 'Once on this Island', 'Ragtime' and 'Anastasia') we guarantee you beautifully melodious and poignant songs. However, in A Man of No Importance, the pair has produced something unmistakeably Irish that complements the story by Terrence McNally (the man behind 'Kiss of a Spider Woman' and 'The Full Monty' musical).

The show is produced by the team that brought you The Barn Theatre's hit run of 'The Full Monty', and is directed by Paul Longhurst who is well known to Oxted audiences for his productions of 'Much Ado About Nothing', 'Into the Woods', 'The Crucible' and 'The Scarlet Pimpernel'. 'Good Company', the group behind A Man of No Importance, was formed for this show; however, it contains a number of well-known and experienced faces.
