GODSPELL
17th
– 21st April 2012 (7:45pm)
In
Godspell, Stephen Schwartz’ genius to create a piece of theatre that
is such a riot of joyous colour, mixed emotion and passion is well proven.
In 2001 the show went on a world tour and composer Alex Lacamoire was
given the honour of reworking the orchestration. By special personal
arrangement, it is Alex’s orchestration that we are so privileged to
be using in this production.
Godspell
is based on the Gospel according to St Matthew it deals with the last
days of Jesus, and includes dramatized versions of several well-known
parables. And yet it is something more — a religious experience, a demonstration
of joy, and a celebration of the family of man.
The
story starts with the chaos of the teachings of the ancient philosophers,
the pre-Christmas story as it were. The arrival of John makes the way
for the true story to unfold, that is – the building of a community,
a harmonized family, a new way of life – that is what Godspell is all
about.
The
new orchestration has a more ‘rocky’ feel than the original, featuring
numbers like Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord, Day by Day and Turn
Back O Man, and promises to be a show not to be missed ! So BOOK
NOW and be prepared to fall under its spell.
